Europe 2009 Trip: The Netherlands

I’ve finally started to put together my photos from our whirlwind Europe trip that we completed last fall. First up on our journey: The Netherlands.

We started our trip by flying to Amsterdam and then spent the next four days seeing as much of the country as we could squeeze in. Rotterdam, The Kinderdijk (windmills), Amsterdam, Delft, Hoge Veluwe (national park with a modern art museum), Leiden and a myriad of other small towns were among our many stops. Our amazing hosts (Karen’s extended family) gave us wonderful tours and introduced us to new facets of Dutch culture. Dank u wel, Hein and Nel.

The city of Leiden wanted to build a Cathedral that would be the envy of the area. Unfortunately, they ran out of money after only completing the small cross section. No bell towers here.

These helpful locals were offering very spirited advice to the man playing giant outdoor chess. Every time he would make a move, they cried in disgust. When he won, they became a lot quieter.
